Gifts for the Garden Lover

By Victor Epand

There is nothing like going into a garden and planting vegetables, many of which will grow within just a few months time into amazing food. Buying gifts for someone who loves to work in the garden can be easy, and obviously seeds are the first thing that comes to mind. Let us look at a few alternate options for gift giving other than seeds.

So what do you buy for the garden lover in your family?

Garden lovers want anything to spruce up their garden. How about figurines, or a garden gnome, which adds personality and character to a garden environment. You can also purchase birdhouses, a small picket fence or anything that brings more life to an already living garden.

Give the garden lover friend or family member you know a coupon for five hours of garden work from you. This is free to do, it only takes up a few hours of your time and it gives you the opportunity to spend some quality time with them in the environment they love best. You may also learn something by working in the garden with them, and you may even become inspired to start your own garden.

Buy the garden lover a table at a local Farmer's Market. This will give them the ability to take what they grow in the late summer and early autumn, and use it to make some extra cash and share their gardening gift with someone else. This is a very cheap gift to buy usually, but the benefits for them are immense.

Another excellent gift is to buy them time at a garden workshop where they can learn about new ideas for a garden, ways to get a higher yield and what other options there are out there for a garden enthusiast. This would apply in a larger center, as most of the workshops and seminars are held in large urban centres.

Another idea is to get them an automatic sprinkler system. That will actually save them time so they do not have to hose the plants frequently.

Buying for a garden enthusiast is not always easy unless you know what goes on in the garden and, beyond seeds, what they would want in order to make their garden better. Try and think outside the box and find something that is not just a new rake or garden tool. The plus side about getting them something for the garden is that every time they work in it, they will be reminded of you!
